Consider the following:
In its July 1988 issue, Consumer Reports criticized the Suzuki Samurai as unsafe and dangerously easy to roll over. In the next issue, a reader wrote in response, “In order to completely idiot-proof our society, we would have to surrender all freedom. Your suggestion that the government protect us from this evil vehicle is just another step in a journey that could ultimately lead to an erosion of freedom in this country.”
Write a few sentences where you identify the kind of fallacy used here and explain how you came to that conclusion. This will require you to define the fallacy you identified and justify why you think it is being used here.
yea it’s a slippery slope. It a ss because what the reader said had no basis in fact. They just simply said that if x happens it will lead to y which will lead to z. They gave no reason why these things would happen they just said they would.
Slippery slope fallacies are easy to spot because of the suggestion that one more or less benign idea could lead to full blown disaster.
