Good beginner Cruiser Bike – V-Star 250 or V-Star 650?

Completed my motorcycle safety course, have received my license and am now looking for my first bike. I’m comfortable in the Cruiser models (as I like my body being upright instead of leaning forward) and want something that can handle highway speeds (after lots of practice on my part of course), but nothing insane. This lead me to the Yamaha V-Star 250 and the V-Star 650.

I like the look, the power is sufficient and it comes with positive reviews.

Friend made the recommendation of these bikes as well, though he came to own one after having previously rode on different bikes.

Thoughts or additional recommendations?

BTW: I’m male, 6′0” and weigh ~210lbs.
BTW: My biggest concern is the power of the bike. I trained on a 250 – Am I in for a shock if I get the 650?
A 250 Rebel, that is.

I don’t think you’ll have any problem on the 650. I usually recommend the 250, and then trade up, but I am changing my mind. 650 is not too big. I started after 30 years off a bike with a Honda VTX1300. I had to get used to it, and am glad I did. But, looking back, I would have been a bit safer with a 650 to 800. So, long story short (too late), go with the 650.
Good luck.
